For many people, travelling is an integral part of their lives, whether it be for business or pleasure. With an ever increasing number of people travelling overseas and returning to Australia, the number of diseases the Australian community is being exposed to is also increasing. Therefore we should strive to protect travellers against infectious diseases, especially vaccine preventable ones, therefore protecting the Australian Community.

Education for travellers on prevention of illness and injury is imperative to ensure their safe travel and return home.

At Valewood Clinic we have a full range of vaccinations to assist with your needs.

Medical Results

Valewood Clinic has dedicated the times of 11.00 am to 2.00 pm Monday to Friday for our patients to ring in and speak to a staff member who is able to access your results.  This will allow us to maintain confidentiality and also improve your understanding of your medical care.  Check with the pathology nurse or off site facility at the time of your tests as to when the results are likely to be available.

Spirometry

Valewood Clinic provides spirometry or lung function testing (pre and post to aid diagnosis) onsite. The spirometer is connected to a computer and results are immediately graphed on the screen. This information is then interpreted and retained in our computerised database.  Spirometry is vital in the management of patients with respiratory conditions. It is also widely used during medicals.

ECGs

Electrocardiograms are performed onsite using the latest computerised equipment. Results are graphed and recorded into our computerised database. Any abnormalities detected are assessed by the treating doctor and treated accordingly.

Medicals

We recommend pre-placement assessment of all workers to identify health or ergonomic issues so as to;

  • Minimise potential for injuring workers
  • Reduce risks to that worker and others
  • Identify any existing injury or illness to protect worker and employer
  • Ensuring your company employs the “right person for the right job”

Bearing in mind the cost of injuries in both human and financial terms, the fees for pre-placement assessments are returned many times over.

Our assessment includes a history of previous health and injury in the form of a questionnaire, tests of vision and hearing, sprirometry, audiometry, tests for conditions such as diabetes and a complete physical examination including musculo-ligamentous, spinal and joint problems. Valewood Clinic will personalise medicals to cover the needs of individual companies.  Further investigations are employed where indicated.

As well as pre-employment medicals, Valewood Clinic also offers a range of screening medicals. These include :

 Annual medicals

 CAMS medicals

 Scuba medicals

 Asbestosmedicals

Human Ear

Audiometry

Valewood Clinic provides onsite audiometry testing with percentage loss calculation. Unique software developed by Bridge Street Clinic allows for results to be interpreted and reported on in terms of percentage loss calculation taking into consideration such variables as age and sex. All results are stored in our computerised database.

It is recommended that audiometry testing be performed at the start of the worker's shift before they have been exposed to noise.

All Pre-employment medical performed at Valewood Clinic included a full audiogram with percentage loss calculation. This  establishes the hearing status of the candidate before commencement of work and also provides a base line for hearing concerns in the future.

INJURY MANAGEMENT

Valewood Clinic believes that the role of treatment to injured or ill work may be resumed (as near as possible to the pre injury level).

An essential part of this has been to maintain the worker in a productive role at work, carrying out appropriate duties, during the treatment stage.

The best outcome is achieved when the Clinic, the employer and the worker consult and cooperate to create the optimal conditions for the worker to achieve the above stated objectives.

If services are required beyond the immediate capacity of the Clinic, a network of specialists and services is in place for immediate referral.

Our policy is to always provide quick and efficient treatment.

We believe that the best role for a worker is to continue in his or her chosen job, and that absence from work leads to psychological, emotional and financial problems. Thus, an essential part of our treatment is to maintain the worker at work as far as possible, if necessary by modifying the tasks performed.

The clinic operates on an appointment system, however acute cases are treated immediately.
